Nissan Titan Owners Network

Talk, Share, Brag - Nissan Titan!

I recently had a custom exhaust system done on my Titan (about a month and a half ago), & now I'm hearing an exhaust leak on the right side, which really sounds like it's coming from the manifold.

I've done some checking around, locally, & everyone's saying Titans are notorious for cracking manifolds, right between the 3rd & 4th runners (between cyl's 5&7, or 6&8).

So, I wanted to ask if any other Titan owners have had this problem, or maybe the muffler shop is blowing smoke up my tailpipe, trying to soak me for a few grand?

Apparently, the manifold is factory welded to the cat converter, which makes it a really expensive part - roughly $600.00, from the dealer!!

Sorry for the long response time, been really busy lately...

I dont know what they'll say about the aftermarket exhaust, but I would think it would all come down to how its installed, and how the dealer interprets the manufacturers warranty.

You could pose the argument, that since the Catalytic Converter is typically covered by a government mandated 80,000 mile warranty, that the manifold should be covered as well, since the cat is a part of the exhaust manifold...

However, things might not go your way, so in a case like that, before doing anything to the exhaust, I like to make sure that I save all the factory parts, for anything I add on... So that it can be removed later, and put back to the stock configuration.

My warranty is already up, so I tossed out the old parts, when I finally did my exhaust system.

I don't know if any of this is going to help out at all, but I found someone else's post, shortly after I posted this thread, about exhaust systems, and cracking manifolds... check it out... you might find some useful info there as well...

Oh, and Good Luck!

Yep. I have a 2004 4x4. Both sides are leaking and now the cat on the passenger side is toast along with an O2 sensor. They said that there were no aftermarket products that woud work on the truck. The Nissan parts are rediculously expensive.

Right after I posted this thread, I went looking thru the other posts, and then I wrote some long replies, regarding what all I've done to my titan, after the fact.

I don't know what state you live in, but here in California, the smog rules are so strict, that if you put an aftermarket cat on your vehicle, they will actually fine you, and you will have to replace it with a factory catalytic converter, at your own expense!

I'm sure there are rules & exceptions, but it's pretty screwed up, because of the way Nissan built the cat, onto the manifold.

I think one way you might be able to get around it, is if the cats are clearly OBD2 compliant, and are installed by a shop. But, again, that depends on the state you live in.

I need to upload some more photos, showing the stuff I've done, to my truck, regarding the exhaust...

I have looked at the JBA headers, as an alternative to the factory manifolds, but I just can't afford them, right now... And then, even those have to have the cats welded to them, or else it won't meet California's smog requirements...

I tell ya, every endeavor I've undertaken with this truck of mine has left me feeling like I'm messin with a sewn shut slut... can't get aHead in the game! lol

But anyway, I'd check around, and do some more research... If it turns out that those cats meet all your local smog requirements, Please, let us all know, as it seems to be an ongoing problem with these Titans!
