Talk, Share, Brag - Nissan Titan!

I tried towing my 23 ft tag trailer for the first time last week. I have a 06 titan w/ tow pkg. It seems that the trans shifts quickly out of lockup and to 4th . I think it is too sensitive and am thinking of trying towing in convential mode, and watch the trans temp closely. mostly flat here, but the hills we do have are usually steep and long. any others have experience towing w/o tow mode?
thanks.

I have 06 also and i have not noticed a diffrence w/tow mode on or off, the only time i do notice it though is when i'm going down a steep hill it will hold the gear when i press the brake pedal like three times, most time it works but sometimes it doesn't. The trans temp likes to get hot quick and they say at the dealer that the temp gauge is really sensitive so even though it might be hot max it might not be. i took mine in for this reason cause i thought my tranny was cooking. I rec installing a tranny cooler, I know the ones with the tow packge have one but it kinda sucks. Also I'm sure you know this but when you tow make sure the tranny is in 4 not D cause this helps keep the shifts stay in longer and the tranny cooler.

Do you get any better gas milage with the mods you have made or just extra power?

I did get some extra power especially cause i have the matching intake and exhaust system (same company). Gas mileage did go down but not by much. It's hard judge to though cause I'm pushing 35" Over all if your truck is stock and you install a intake and exhaust you will feel a diffrence mostly torque but anything is better than stock but if you do install and intake make sure it is a true cold air intake and it is sealed from the engine. Volant has a good one that fits right in and K&N also those are true cold air systems. For exhaust it depends do you want it loud all the time or just when you get on it. Bank's is a great system but it is really loud all the time. Volant is good it's got a good tone and when you get on it especially if you have a intake system it sound really good. Don't forget exhaust get's louder the older it get's. Go to stillen.com they have great selection for titans and plenty of stuff to mod your ride. Hoped this helped good luck!

Thanks for the info. I have used the K&N box before and liked the power but 2 times the filter actually poped off the intake in the box, poor design. There is a pop up for SLR chips that claims some big #s at a pretty low price have you heard of any you that has tried this chip?

I tow a trailer every other weekend with around 2-3 bikes 1-2 ATVs. The trailer loaded down is right around 6k lbs. My truck does the same thing in and out of 5th. If I'm towing anything this large or heavy I only use 4 gears. I don't use overdrive any more when towing heavier loads that are close to the 9500 lbs limit. About the only thing I get from tow mode is that the trans will hold gears longer instead of shifting.
